SUMMARY:State of the Practice: Setting & Communicating PFAS Fish Consumption Advisories — Lessons from Other States
DESCRIPTION:State of the Practice: Setting & Communicating PFAS Fish Consumption Advisories — Lessons from Other States \nZoom: https://ncsu.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_IADentlvRXC_eF0NVaWnZQ \nAs PFAS contamination complicates fish consumption guidance\, public health agencies are developing new approaches to protect communities while working to keep messaging clear and actionable. This webinar convenes practitioners and policymakers to review real-world strategies other states have used to set protective\, science-informed PFAS fish advisories and to communicate them effectively. \nErica Bloom from the Great Lakes PFAS Action Network\, Karly Brown from the Michigan Dept of Health and Human Services\, and Brandon Armstrong from the Michigan Dept. of Environment will share their diverse approaches to advisory development\, from area-wide frameworks to scalable protocols that move beyond one-off advisories\, and the tools states use to address cumulative exposures\, vulnerable populations\, and interactions with other contaminants. We’ll highlight communication strategies proven to increase understanding and behavior change (tailored messaging\, alternative food recommendations\, and community engagement)\, and engage with lessons learned about what works and what doesn’t when translating complex science into public guidance. \nJoin us to learn practical\, evidence-informed tactics states are using now to reduce PFAS exposure via fish and to improve advisory clarity\, equity\, and impact. This is the final webinar in our 3-part series on PFAS in the food chain

SUMMARY:What's up Wednesday: SciENcv
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a zoom-based training session on SciENcv development.  Tisha Mentnech from the NC State library system will cover basics and the following problems that have been brought up in conversations/emails: \n1. How to best develop the 3 expert areas with an explanation and pertinent manuscripts…  (NIH biosketch pages 4-5)\n2. How to make sure that papers relevant to the opening statement of expertise (just after the degrees earned) are listed just after the opening blurb.\n3. Do all papers need to be linked to ORCID ID now? Can we still provide a link of full bibliography?\n4. How to bold or underline or italicize?\n5. How to enter a line break between paragraphs?\n5. Is this true – can you explain? NIH will now only accept appointments/positions outside of your current institution for a period up to three years from the date the applicant submits the application to the agency for funding consideration.” \n6.  Is cut and paste from a previous biosketch possible? \nZoom: https://ncsu.zoom.us/j/99349153003?pwd=QPeOt8yUjbdOxbrM1Tph420NJ5ahIN.1

SUMMARY:CEC Hosts Discussion with Robert Bilott
DESCRIPTION:The CEC is pleased to host an informal\, 90 minute discussion with Robert Bilott\, an environmental lawyer who is world-renowned for uncovering rampant PFAS contamination in Parkersburg\, West Virginia. His litigation against DuPont led to the C8 Science Panel\, which is to date\, one of the largest epidemiological studies in existence. This time will be used to explore the nexus between PFAS science\, law\, policy\, and advocacy. Light refreshments will be served. \nPlease RSVP to ensure an accurate headcount for food and seating.
