CHHE research initiatives will focus on environmental-associated human diseases/disorders and environmental exposures that are especially important to rural and agricultural communities.  The five Center research initiatives are overlapping and dynamic; respiratory disease, endocrine abnormalities, cancer, oxidative stress and exposure assessment modeling.   Molecular mechanistic approaches will emphasize environmental stressor-induced perturbations in signaling pathways/networks as well as environment/genetic/epigenetic interactions that influence susceptibility.  Spatial-temporal exposure assessment modeling will utilize Bayesian frameworks to quantify and characterize different sources of uncertainty in exposure models and data, and to carry that uncertainty through the subsequent health analysis and risk assessments
