My research focuses on common indoor arthropod pests, cockroaches and bed bugs. These are important public health pests. Cockroaches release several potent allergens that are associated with asthma, particularly in children in urban low-income households exposed to chronic cockroach infestations. Bed bugs are associated with a lot of negative health, psychological and financial impacts. These insects also harbor and disseminate diverse gut microbes and microbial metabolites in residential environments. My research aims to understand the impact of these pests on the indoor environment and indoor air quality and the risks associated with exposure to these allergens and microbial contaminants on human health.
