Dr. Jonathan D. Schultz is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at North Carolina Central University (NCCU). His research group develops theoretical models, artificial intelligence, and machine learning tools to translate complex experimental data into molecular-scale insight. Grounded in spectroscopic and computational expertise in energy science, Dr. Schultz now directs these methods toward environmental health science, with a focus on identifying volatile organic compound (VOC) biomarkers of lung cancer from gas chromatography data and predicting the pulmonary toxicity of airborne per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). This work spans several CHHE Research Interest Groups, including Environmental Health Disparities and Health and Airborne Contaminants. Dr. Schultz is committed to leveraging NCCU’s mission as a Historically Black College and University to foster CHHE’s engagement with overburdened communities across North Carolina.
