Supplemental Funding

Seed Funding

A mission of the CHHE is to stimulate and support research related to environmental health sciences (EHS). As part of this effort, CHHE will provide seed funds to support our full member’s projects that are related to mission of the Center. CHHE will provide up to $5000/full member/year (April 1 – March 31) to defray the costs associated with using the Comparative Pathology Core and/or the Systems Technologies Core (STC). Seed funds can be used in non-CHHE NC State core facilities (imaging, FACS, etc.).

To request seed funds for STC services, use the STC Portal. For other seed fund requests, submit your request here. Provide a short paragraph describing the environmental health relevance of the project, the core(s) for which you are requesting support, and confirm that you have discussed the project/costs with the leader of the facility core you plan to use.

Note: Currently, the GSL and CPC Histopathology Core has a significantly longer turnaround time than normal. Therefore, CHHE full members can use their STC funds or Seed Funds to get NGS sequencing or immunohistochemistry done at external vendors such as Duke, UNC-CH, Novagene, etc.

STC Voucher Program

All full center members are eligible for the Systems Technology Core (STC) Voucher Program. Under this program, CHHE provides 50% of the costs up to $15K/member per year for $30K STC or pathology services for projects with EHS relevance.

To participate, complete a STC voucher request, which includes estimated costs and a project description. The major approval criterion will be that funds must be used for EHS-related projects.

Scored Grant Program

The Scored Grant Program accepts requests of up to $15K from full members to support the generation of new data for the revision of EHS-related R01s that were scored but not funded. These funds will aid PIs in the acquisition of additional preliminary data needed to address A0 reviewer’s concerns and win funding for their A1 R01 application.

Each requester must provide the NIH R01 summary statement and a budget for the proposed experiments. CHHE will review requests and reply with a funding decision within one week. Additional information may be requested to clarify an application.
