Dr. Tsuji’s research is centered on gene regulation and signaling pathways involved in iron homeostasis and antioxidant defense mechanisms under the exposure of chemotherapeutic agents such as cisplatin and environmental toxicants including arsenic and cadmium. In particular, Dr. Tsuji’s research is focused on the molecular mechanism through which cellular iron transport and storage are coordinately regulated to protect cells from oxidative stress induced by the chemical exposure, and how perturbation of iron metabolism by chemical exposure causes or exacerbates human disease such as cancer and neurodegeneration.
