Dr. Jane Hoppin Contributes to IARC Monograph on Carcinogenicity of PFOA and PFOS
In a significant scientific contribution, Dr. Jane Hoppin has played a key role in the November 2023 review by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) Monograph on the carcinogenicity of Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) and Perfluorosulfonic Acid (PFOS). The IARC has classified PFOA as “carcinogenic to humans” (Group 1) based on compelling evidence from experimental animals and strong mechanistic findings in exposed humans. PFOS has been designated as “possibly carcinogenic to humans” (Group 2B) owing to robust mechanistic evidence.
