Environmental Health Science Cluster Hires Join NC State and CHHE

Drs. Jane Hoppin, Michael Bereman and Cathrine Hoyo were hired as part of the Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program Environmental Heath Science Cluster Hire. All three will join the new Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Sciences and all three will have a major impact on the future development and success of the Center for Human Health and the Environment. You can read more about Dr. Hoppin at http://workthatmatters.ncsu.edu/newhires/hoppin.php and more about Dr Bereman at http://workthatmatters.ncsu.edu/newhires/bereman.php.  Dr. Hoyo will join NC State University in January 2013.  She is currently Associate Professor and Chief, within the Division of Clinical Epidemiology Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Duke University School of Medicine.  Cathrine received her PhD in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Dr. Hoyo in an epidemiolgist with a focus on environmental epigenetics in relation to common chronic diseases. She directs a research program aimed at examining the extent to which epigenetic mechanisms could explain some of the racial and ethnic differences in risk and mortality of common chronic diseases and conditions including obesity and cancer.
